Teams are divided between those on the harbour craft and those on nearby shore. The teams on the harbour utilise the rhythmic beat of percussion instruments, while those on the shore use the drums. Both teams engage in alternating rhythmic ‘messages’ to communicate until they combine to create the fascinating syncopation of global rhythms, thundering away across the harbour in full harmony to a momentous crescendo.
Each participant is quickly engaged and enthralled as they learn to follow simple hand percussion rhythms. Progressing to drums, the hand percussion rhythms are enhanced and amplified. Bass drums, African drums, cuicas, cow bells, shakers and other instruments are combined to produce a universal and connecting sound.
